Evelyn Partners, the wealth manager entrusted with £62 billion of its clients’ assets, has become the first official wealth management partner of Saracens - whose men’s and women’s teams have secured multiple premiership titles - in a tie-up that will help players get a firm grip on their finances now and well beyond the game.
Under the three-year partnership with the London-based club, Evelyn Partners will provide a bespoke financial education and coaching programme for Saracens’ professional male and female players in a bid to improve their current financial prospects and their retirement outcomes for the years after they exit the elite sport.
Transitioning from the scrum to the next stage of a career journey can be challenging for players. This is why in addition to providing financial education, Evelyn Partners plans to tap the unique competitive and strategic skillset rugby players exhibit on the pitch by providing a second career pathway into the financial services industry when they retire from the sport.
Under the Evelyn Partners Player Pathway Programme, male and female players will learn why wealth management can be a logical next step for a post-rugby career. Rugby players not only understand what it takes to compete at an elite level but can also leverage their extensive network of contacts, and credibility in the game, to enable a successful career in wealth management. Steering more women into the profession, in particular, will not only level the financial standing between former male and female players but will also boost the number of female financial planners and investment managers in the sector.
Evelyn Partner’s pledge to offer financial and career guidance for both male and female players also supports the wealth manager’s wider mission to improve the advice gap for women. Helping women find their financial feet is vital in an age when a significant proportion of wealth is now held by females. Women are typically less likely than men to seek the consul of a financial adviser and feel less confident about investing than their male counterparts, an advice gap Evelyn Partners is endeavouring to close.
Rugby careers can be hugely rewarding for players but are typically short, which is why offering advice to more players early in their career and financial journeys can ensure earnings – from salaries and commercial opportunities – not only survive the demands of everyday life but also last well beyond the try line.
Global rugby participation is on the rise, in part driven by the fast-paced growth of women’s rugby as a surge in investment and a fresh crop of global stars elevate the sport to new levels. Both Saracens and Evelyn Partners have a long history of excellence and the wealth manager’s partnership with the rugby club aligns with Evelyn Partners’ commitment to embracing the evolution of sport, an industry that can not only transform and inspire but also include, but also what’s next for individuals, their money and the wider world.
Andrew Middleton, Chief Marketing and Commercial Officer at Evelyn Partners, commented: “Saracens is such a natural partner for us. It’s a club that is constantly looking forward, driving performance, whilst at the same time conscious of the opportunity the club has to accelerate societal change.
“Through this partnership, Evelyn Partners will provide financial education and coaching to both men’s and women’s teams, helping players consider life beyond rugby. With equal focus on both teams, this partnership gives us another platform to highlight and address the female wealth advice gap. We’re also excited to be able to open up unique, behind the scenes experiences for our clients to shine a light on life within an elite sporting environment."
Mike Leslie, Chief Growth Officer at Saracens, said: “We are thrilled to announce a new multi-year partnership with Evelyn Partners. Evelyn Partners shares Saracens’ vision for leading the change in rugby and pushing the boundaries of what is possible, on-the-pitch and off the pitch. As we prepare for a new era in the sport, we are incredibly excited to be partnering with such an impressive business that shares our values and long-term ambitions.”
